So here I am, writing my first blog post, when I shouldBnoveling.
Okay. I admit. That was a little cheesy. But I’m building a brand, and I’m pretty excited about it. This is my first official blog post, which is a huge leap for me because of the time commitment required. Let’s be honest, time should grow on trees the way that money is fabled to do. I have a career. I have a child. I’m married. I’m in school. Writing is my passion, though, and sometimes we squeeze every last drop out of a day for the things we love. So, here I am. I shouldBnoveling, but I’m writing a blog.
I’m creating this blog for a few reasons.
First: I’m told through various sources that authors should have blogs. It’s a pretty simple matter of marketing.
Second: I think it will be a fantastic way to expand on the online platform I started with my Facebook and Twitter author accounts: @shouldBnoveling and www.facebook.com/shouldBnoveling.
And third: the reason I’m finally writing this first post two friggin months after claiming shouldbnoveling.wordpress.com, I finally decided how to utilize the site–for world building, character building, writing exercises, and as a narrative of my adventures in writing.
The shouldBnoveling platform is intended to be an online documentary of my authorship. Someday, I hope to look back on Twitter, Facebook, and my blog, and see the progress I have made as a writer. I’d also like for this to be a way to connect to my readers: a story about my story.
Don’t get me wrong: this is certainly not the beginning of my writing adventure. No, my adventures as a writer started a long, long time ago, perhaps when I co-wrote a story with my brother about literally dressing the Thanksgiving turkey. Now, I am embarking on the adventure in a different way. For the first time, truly, I am aspiring to publish my work for the world. And not just with one novel, but many. I’m ready to be an author. My online presence as an author–shouldBnoveling–is the start of that adventure.
And with that said, I’m going to go write a novel.
